Wolfgang Egger sketched the new Audi A5 Sportsback - a luxurious, sporty and elegant 4-door coupe convertible (can it get any longer than this!?) for our preview. I can't help but compare his simple little unassuming office to BMW van Hooydonk's which looked like a creative factory with walls fully plastered with nonsensical images that lead to mind maps that made perfect sense.
Anyway, a short biography of Wolfgang Egger: After graduating as an industrial designer from International College of Arts and Sciences in Milan, Egger took only four years to reach the post of Chief Designer in Alfa Romeo. And another five to be appointed as Chief Designer in Seat (subsidiary of VW in Spain). And nine more to ascend to the ultimate throne of Head of Audi Group Design, being responsible for both the Audi and Lamborghini brands. Phew. So in total, he's invested a total of 20 years to get to where he is today. Although some of the models he contributed his creative input to in the early years, seem to me, have a rather lacklustre design, but hey, it could have been 'hot' before. But look who's holding the golden pencil to Audi's sketches now?
On a separate note, no wonder most people don't get anywhere. Maverick achievements get you in the spotlight. But patience and persistence gets you to your dream. If you want to know if you're one of the 'most people', I suggest you take a look at your own employment record. If you have a tendency to attend 'welcome parties' in January and be thrown 'farewells' in December, every year. Then... well yea.
